Philmont Workup Hike
8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Dungeness Spit
10 mile Hike for Philmont Crew 710D members (Charlie, Brody & Mr. Bougan) 1. Plan. Hope everyone is ready for our Philmont crew hike out to Dungeness spit lighthouse! Our second hike is scheduled for Sunday 10 Feb. This will be an 11 mile hike with backpack. Low tide is aprox 1147 so we should be walking on semi-firm sand. You will need to fill your backpack w/ stuff weighing 20% of your body weight. So if you weigh 100 lbs, you would carry 20lbs. It is recommend you carry water -- 1 gal weights aprox 8lbs. That way if we need to adjust your weight we can pour out some water on the way back :) Here is the plan: 0800 Meet @ Central Market Parking lot (across from Taco Time.) 0815 Load up and depart 0930 Arrive Dungeness National Wildlife recreation area 0945 Depart to hike to Dungeness light house 1145 Sack lunch @ light house 1430 Depart Dungeness National Wildlife recreation area 1545 return Central Market Parking lot (across from Taco Time.) This may be aprox 1 hr later if we stop at Fat Smitty fro dinner. Will call ahead to confirm time. 2. Drivers: If you are able to drive, please send me the following information: Name, seats, license & insurance coverage so so I can get a BSA tour permit. I figure we'll need aprox 6 drivers. 3. Parents: This trip is open to the parents of the Philmont crew. You are welcome to come along. Please RSVP by 2 Feb for transportation considerations. 4. Cost -- The transportation and refuge fee is $7 per person. Additionally you will need $$ in case we stop at Fat Smitty for a famous hamburger on the way home! 5. PLEASE BRING: Bring walking shoes, warm clothes, backpack, water, sack lunch, rain gear, and $$ (recommend you check-out http://www.dungeness.com/lighthouse/ and http://www.dungeness.com/refuge/ and http://www.newdungenesslighthouse.com/ for planning purposes.) 6. Uniform: Class B (some type of scouting shirt.) If you have any questions/concerns feel free to give me a call. Also if you will not be able to attend please let me know. Thanks!!
